High school seniors

  • Direct Admission is a streamlined process that is different from our regular admission process.
  • If you qualify, we’ll offer you pre-approved admission to the University of Southern Maine without having to fill out our application.
  • If you decide to accept our offer of admission, you're not committed to attending USM.

Our Director of Admissions will send you a letter and/or an email with an offer of admission during your senior year of high school.

  • Maine residents: You took early college courses at any University of Maine System institution and earned a final grade of C or better.
  • Out-of-state residents: You completed a profile on a college search website and submitted an official transcript certified by your school counselor.

After you earn 30 credits in an approved associate degree program, your community college will contact you by text message and email to let you know you’re eligible for direct admission to USM through the Transfer ME pathway.

Once we know you’re interested, our Director of Admissions will send you an offer of admission.

You don’t need to complete our application. However, to take advantage of this offer, you must finish your associate degree program.

If we receive your official transcripts before April 1 you’ll be considered for our merit scholarships.

After we review your fast admission form submission*, we’ll send you an admit packet confirming your major selection or undeclared status.

If you choose to live on campus, you may qualify for an additional housing scholarship:

  • High school seniors: $1000
  • Maine Community College System students: $2000

Make sure to submit your enrollment deposit right away to secure your spot so you can:

  • Schedule a meeting with your academic advisor
  • Register for classes
  • Attend orientation
