Next Level Teaching in PK–8 General Music

This course will offer a comprehensive look at all things general music. Class time will be devoted to each musical
engagement—singing, playing, composing, improvising, and listening—to identify strategies that enhance student learning. Additionally, sessions will be devoted to the topics every teacher must master to create and sustain an empowered learning community: classroom expectations and procedures, mindful music selection, inclusion and differentiation, curriculum design and interaction, and personal and professional self-care for teachers. 3 credits.

Research in Music Education

This class will examine the application of systemic research methods in music education. Topics will include quantitative and qualitative designs, how to critically evaluate research, measurement theory, standardized tests, and the interpretation of data related to music aptitude, achievement, preference, performance, and learning in music. This course is required for the Masters of Music in Music Education degree. 3 credits.
