What we do

STEM Outreach brings LEGO robotics, 3D printing, astrophysics demonstrations, and more, to events across the state. We’re making STEM education accessible to all. For inquiries about professional development workshops or upcoming events, contact us at usmstem@maine.edu

STEM Workshops & Events

Catch us out in the wild, or have us come to you! USM STEM Outreach hosts & attends events all across the state of Maine, featuring lots of the topics & curriculum that you see in our other activities. These workshops & events feature a topic such as “LEGO Robotics”, “Programming in Minecraft”, “3D Printing & Design”, or many of our other subjects.

Workshops
We work with schools, libraries, homeschool groups, community centers, and other organizations to bring STEM activities to their facilities. These are 3- or 6-hour-long workshops we host with a partner organization, with a topic focus of their choice. We either travel to a partner’s location (such as a school or library), or work with a University of Maine System campus to schedule space.

Professional Development
STEM Outreach hosts professional development teach-the-teacher sessions for Maine educators to gain confidence & skills in engineering & computer science topics. Our LEGO Robotics sessions are the most popular, but we frequently offer sessions covering other topics as well.

Public Events
Expos, festivals, conventions – we bring our hands-on STEM learning to multiple events across the state of Maine. Find us at events in Portland, Farmington, Bangor, Houlton & more. We hope you’ll stop by and say “hi” if you see us!

We are open for scheduling workshops & events during the fall & spring semesters, from August through May.
