The Office of Sustainability primarily serves the University of Southern Maine’s students, staff & faculty by providing consultation, mentorship and analysis on environmental impact initiatives with a special focus on initiatives that impact campus directly. Secondarily, the Office occasionally provides tours, educational material or brief consultation to non-profit external groups such as local K-12 schools. Consultation to outside groups is limited to non-partisan, non-political organizations and initiatives.
The Office does not provide consultation to for-profit entities, unless it is under contract with such an entity or has a formal partnership with the entity.
Aside from certain special events, the University cannot take waste from external entities, including petroleum, vegetable oil, food scraps, bottle recycling, paper recycling, cardboard recycling, plastic recycling, metal recycling, batteries and electronic waste. Please contact the Riverside facility in Portland or Eco-Maine for questions about disposing of your business or household waste.
