This page provides answers to some of the most common questions students ask about the TRIO College Programs.

TRIO offers unique services such as individual guidance, peer mentoring programs, scholarship opportunities, and engaging educational/social events. Your TRIO advisor can be your first point of contact if you have any questions, and help you achieve your undergraduate degree and accomplish your goals. The TRIO community is here to support our students throughout their college careers and to enhance their experience at the University of Southern Maine.

TRIO Offices are located in Luther Bonney Hall 137, 85 Bedford St., Portland campus and at 7 College Ave., Gorham campus. Advising meetings with TRIO Advisors are available on all three campuses and virtually. Check with your TRIO Advisor to find their office location.

Our TRIO Student Lounge is located in Luther Bonney Hall 147. This lounge is open to all TRIO students Mondays-Fridays from 8am-4pm, and offers a quiet place to study, connect with other students, free printing, and a coffee/snack station.

If you qualify to join TRIO but you do not get selected this year, your records will be kept on a waiting list for the next available space. We will contact you as space opens.

There is no cost to the student or family to join the program. All services provided to TRIO College Program students, including the Summer Program, trips, tutoring services, and workshops, are provided free of charge.

It can be stressful to balance everything while enrolled in college. Your first action is to take a breath. Then, consider meeting with your TRIO Advisor to discuss strategies and set a plan. Whether you need time-management strategies, study skills, or someone to talk to, your TRIO Advisor is here for you.

Your assigned TRIO Peer Mentor is another resource available to you, who may have felt the same way at some point in their college journey. Additionally, the Learning Commons offers Peer Academic Coaches who can assist with learning strategies such as time management, reading a college textbook efficiently, and preparing for exams. Check out the Learning Commons to schedule a meeting with a Peer Academic Coach. Remember that USM offers subject-based and writing assistance tutors; book an appointment here
