The event will feature a panel of speakers discussing their work, moderated by USM Professor David Shane Lowry, PhD (Lumbee)
  • Darren Ranco, PhD (Penobscot), Associate Professor of Anthropology, Chair of Native American Programs, and Coordinator of Native American Research at the University of Maine Orono
  • Mihku Paul, MFA (Maliseet, Member of Kingsclear First Nation, N.B.), Environmental Activist and Water Protector
  • Lokotah Sanborn (Penobscot), Filmmaker at Sunlight Media Collective, Interdisciplinary Artist, and Community Organizer
Following the panel, there will be an hour for dialogue between the audience and panelists. 
 
This event is part of the Gloria S. Duclos Convocation The Rivers We Belong To: Grounding Indigenous Presence and Sovereigntyand is co-sponsored by the USM Department of Geography-Anthropology, the USM Office of Sustainability, the Osher Map Library, and Boston University. 
 
It also marks the beginning of an exciting, cross-institutional conversation between the University of Southern Maine and Boston University on land, integrity, and ecologies in Wabanaki and Wampanoag lands.
