THE 280 – Topics in Theatre: Beyond Podcasting: Audio Production for Multimedia

Students will learn fundamental skills for live and pre-recorded digital radio and audio production with a focus on developing compelling and entertaining content for a listening audience including: podcasting; radio dramas; narration; voice over; utilization and incorporation of sound effects and underscoring. No experience necessary.

CMS 203 – Introduction to Video Production (Lecture)

This course will examine the phases of field and studio video production.  Class will be a combination of lectures, demonstrations, viewing relevant content, group discussions and online content. 

This course counts towards the Media Production elective requirement and the Audio Video Production minor.

Co-requisite: Concurrent enrollment in CMS 204 (lab).

CMS  204 – Introduction to Video Production (Lab)

Various production exercises and assignments to illustrate the principles and theories presented in CMS 203.   There will be hands-on experience with professional technology – video cameras, lighting, audio, grip – as well as an introduction to video editing. This course counts towards the Media Production elective requirement and the Audio Video Production minor. Co-requisite: Concurrent enrollment in CMS 203 (lecture).

CMS 322 – Digital Audio Storytelling

Students will learn the craft of creating compelling audio stories with high production values.  The class will utilize digital audio recorders, microphones, and Adobe Audition software.  Learning applications include: interviews with everyday people, public service announcements, and news feature stories.   No prior audio production experience or coursework is necessary.   

This course counts towards the me Media Production elective requirement and the Audio Video Production minor.

CMS 324 – Photojournalism

This course introduces students to photojournalism norms, aesthetics, ethics, and practices through critical assessment of the work of Pulitzer Prize winning photographers and applied photography and photographic editing.

This course counts towards the Media Production elective requirement.

CMS 440 – Advanced Narrative Filmmaking (Lecture)

This course will provide an opportunity for students to learn advanced principles and techniques of professional filmmaking including preproduction planning, production and post-production practices.  This course also stresses the continued development of critical media skills and aesthetic sensibilities as they relate to professional film and video productions. 

Students must be concurrently enrolled in CMS 441.

This course counts towards the Media Production elective requirement and the Audio Video Production minor.

Prerequisites: CMS 203 and CMS 204 or Instructor’s permission.

CMS 441 – Advanced Narrative Filmmaking (Lab)

This lab will consist of workshops and exercises in image and sound acquisition, as well as advanced video editing principles and techniques.

Students must be concurrently enrolled in CMS 440.

This course counts towards the Media Production elective requirement and the Audio Video Production minor.

Prerequisites: CMS 203 and CMS 204 or Instructor’s permission.
