How do I place materials on Electronic Reserves?

Complete a Course Reserves Form. On the Reserve form select the electronic reserve option. Submit the form and material to the Library

Will the library scan material if I do not have an electronic verison of a document?

The library will scan course reserves materials into an Adobe PDF document if you do not have an electronic file.

Who has access to Electronic Reserves materials?

Only current students and faculty have access to the Ares Electronic Reserve System.  Users login with their credentials.

How should I prepare the material before placing it on Electronic Reserve?

Copies must be single sided only on 8 1/1 x 11 size paper. They MUST be clean copies with few markings. Source citation must be included along with materials

 What about copyright?

The library works to follow the provisions of academic fair use.

USM maintains a reserve collection, in both print and electronic formats, to support the instructional requirements of specific courses. The copyrighted material included in course reserves should be covered by the "Fair Use" provisions of the U.S. Copyright Act of 1976 (Section 107). The Library will follow the principle of fair use when placing materials on course reserve. Fair use provisions are based on brevity, spontaneity and immediacy. Materials submitted which violates any of these principles will NOT knowingly be made available by the Library. Faculty will be notified upon discovery of copyright violations.

Are all reserves now in electronic format?

No. Books and other non-print material are only available at the Reserve Desk.
