We are proud to offer individualized support to student veterans, service members, and dependents using GI Bill® and other education benefits. Our Green Zone program prepares our USM staff and faculty to serve those who have served through military cultural awareness training sessions. We collaborate with our student organization, Husky Veterans, to host programming and events on campus and in our community. We are here because you are, so let us know what you need!

A quick note: please be sure that you have submitted a request for certification of your upcoming/current semester. This must be done every semester you are enrolling in courses.

Here you’ll find a brief overview of the services we provide to students and the wider USM community. If you don’t see what you’re looking for here, check out our FAQ or feel free to contact us.

Our team of School Certifying Officials and work-study students is trained to support you in navigating your benefits: GI Bill®, tuition assistance (TA) for guard and reservists, dependents’ benefits, veteran- and military-focused scholarships, and more. Visit our page dedicated to using your education benefits at USM.

Our Veterans Resource Centers are a great place to study, relax, and connect with other veterans, as well as dependents and military-affiliated students on campus. The Portland center is co-located with our staff offices, and all three centers are staffed by work-study students, most with prior military experience. We strive to offer a warm, inviting space where you can learn more about resources for veterans both on and off campus, and also meet people who can relate to your experiences.

We are proud to offer a military awareness training program, Green Zone, to help faculty and staff understand military life and the challenges that arise in transitioning from combat to classroom. To register for a training session for yourself, your group, or your department, fill out our Green Zone Training Request form.

Our Student Veterans of America chapter, also known as Husky Veterans, seeks to build community, bring veterans together, and to help each other overcome the challenges associated with transitioning from military life to civilian/student life. Members of the Husky Vets plan social events, attend conferences, and raise awareness of veterans on campus.
