The University of Southern Maine grants credit for exams in over 100 languages.

University students can earn a maximum of 8 credits per level (100, 200, 300) by exam for each language. 

The following levels of proficiency on the ACTFL OPI will be awarded credit at University of Southern Maine: 

  • Intermediate:  LAN 1XX (8 credits)
  • Advanced: LAN 2XX (8 credits)

Ordering Official Score Reports for ACTFL-OPI

Official score reports should be requested by emailing Language Testing International (LTI) at support@languagetesting.com.  If students have a copy of their results already, they can email this documentation to priorlearningusm@maine.edu and the CPL office will verify the results with LTI.

You will receive confirmation at your maine.edu email from the CPL office if ACTFL OPI credit is posted to your transcript.

ASLPI exam scores of 3 or higher receive ASL 2XX 8 credits.

Official score reports should be requested by and emailed directly from ASLPI@Gaulladet.edu  to priorlearningusm@maine.edu.   You will receive confirmation at your maine.edu email from the CPL office if ASLPI credit is posted to your transcript

BYU FLATS exams are awarded credit using the following equivalencies: 

  • 101 and/or 102         F            No credit
  • 101 and 102             P, P        LAN 1XX 4 credits
  • 101, 102 and 201     P, P, P    LAN 2XX 8 credits

Official score reports should be requested from BYU by emailing flats-sec@byu.edu.  Scores should be emailed directly from BYU to:

priorlearningusm@maine.edu

You will receive confirmation at your maine.edu email from the CPL office if BYU FLATS credit is posted to your transcript.

Official score reports should be requested by logging into your account at chinesetest.cn.  Scores should be sent to:
