What is a Learning Commons Desk Assistant?

Learning Commons Navigators can assist students with several academic tasks, including how to:

  • Gain awareness of Library resources
  • Use the computers, printers, scanners, and other technology in The Learning Commons
  • Connect with a Subject-Based Tutor, Writing Assistant, Technology Coach, or Peer Academic Coach
  • Reserve a Group Study Room up to three weeks in advance
  • Resolve other issues or needs via referral to other USM departments

The position of Learning Commons Desk Assistant offers students a job opportunity that helps them to become stronger students while developing a wide array of transferable professional skills. Learning Commons Desk Assistants serve as members of the broader team, including Subject-Based Tutors, Writing Assistants, Technology Coaches, Peer Academic Coaches, and the professional staff.
