It’s important to connect with your academic or faculty advisor to make sure you register for the classes that will get you back on track to completing your degree. Ready to get the ball rolling?

We encourage you to complete your Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. You can start your FAFSA as early as October 1 for the following academic year. The sooner you submit it, the better your chances will be to receive a strong financial aid package.

If you have any questions or need assistance, contact your financial aid counselor (assigned by your last name).

Log in to MyUSM with your maine.edu credentials. MyUSM is the information hub for all our current students, so you may want to add a bookmark to your browser.

You can find out who your advisor is by logging in to MaineStreet with your maine.edu credentials and selecting Student Self-Service.

  • If you choose the mobile-friendly Student Center experience:
    • Look for the Academics menu item
    • Select Advisor Information
  • If you choose the Classic Student Center experience:
    • Look for the Advisor block on the main page, which will likely be in a stack of small blocks on the right side of your screen

If you have less than 54 credits (less than four full-time semesters)

  • Schedule a meeting with your professional academic advisor.

If you have more than 54 credits (more than four full-time semesters)

  • During the academic year (September through May), send an email to your faculty advisor to schedule a meeting
  • During the summer months (June, July, and August), your faculty advisor may not be available
    • Contact Advising to schedule an appointment or take advantage of their drop-in hours via Zoom

If you don’t register for classes during your meeting with your advisor, you should have a good idea of what classes you need to take. Keep in mind that enrolling full-time — we recommend 15 credits per semester — is the fastest path to graduation.

It’s important to secure your spot as early as possible in the classes you need to complete your degree. After registration, you have until the start of the semester to make financial arrangements — which may include setting up a payment plan with Student Accounts.

Find out how and when to register for the upcoming semester from the Office of Registration and Scheduling Services.

If you have a financial hold on your account, you may need to take some extra steps before you can register for classes.

  • If your balance is less than $1,000
    • You may still register for classes
  • If your balance is more than $1,000
    • Entering into a payment agreement with Student Accounts might get you permission to register for classes
    • Katie Corey in the Student Financial Services office can help you get started

If you have an immunization hold on your account, it may prevent you from registering for classes. Review our immunization compliance information and contact University Health Services with any questions.

Additionally, the University of Maine System requires full vaccination against COVID-19 or a University System-approved exemption.

Have you completed the primary COVID-19 vaccine series dose(s)? We strongly encourage booster shots, as well, to help prevent severe cases on campus.

Did you know we offer over 75 different scholarships for continuing students in various academic areas?

Additionally, the University of Maine System, the State of Maine, and other external parties offer multiple scholarship opportunities.

If you’ve almost finished your credit requirements, you must apply to graduate so we can award your degree.
