The Policy, Planning, and Management program at the Muskie School offers graduate-level education and training for those seeking a career in the public and nonprofit sectors. Educational experiences are multi-disciplinary and problem focused, with flexible delivery through traditional classes and distance technologies. PPM faculty, staff, and students engage in rigorous inquiry about the complex challenges of democratic governance in our diverse communities, states, and nation.
The MPPM program can be completed in 2 academic years (36 credits) if the student is attending full time. Courses are conveniently offered after 4 PM or on-line so that students who are working may easily take classes.
Goals
To educate students to have the ability to:
- Lead and manage in public governance and nonprofit organizations;
- Participate in and contribute to the policy process;
- Analyze and develop public policy;
- Solve problems and make decisions;
- Articulate and apply a public service perspective;
- Communicate and interact effectively with a diverse and changing workforce and citizenry
As of the summer 2020 semester, all out-of-state students in the Master’s of Policy, Planning, and Management program are eligible for the discounted New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) tuition rate. As of AY 2019-2020, the NEBHE rate is $695 per credit hour compared to the University out-of-state tuition rate of $1,141 per credit hour.
