Engineering is constantly evolving, and USM’s engineering department’s curricula reflect it. We provide a solid and complete engineering education built upon a foundation of mathematics, science, and the liberal arts. The undergraduate programs are broadly based, but there are opportunities to specialize. Modern engineering computational and design software usage is integrated throughout the curriculum. We also offer cutting-edge technical electives allowing our students to specialize in emerging engineering content areas.

Students are encouraged to pursue double majors, minors, concentrations, additional courses and internships to increase access and opportunities for a diverse and productive engineering career. Our flexible course offerings and rotating class schedules make it possible for a full-time student to graduate in four years.

USM’s Engineering degrees will prepare students to be eligible for licensure within the State of Maine. Visit the UMS State Authorization and Licensure page to learn more about the licensure requirements in other states and territories, and for contact information to inquire further about the licensure requirements associated with this program.

Internships with industrial partners are available to students at all levels. A job and internship fair, specific to engineering students, is held each fall on campus giving our students the opportunity to meet with many local employers throughout southern Maine.
