Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a benefit given to F-1 students who are completing a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral degree in the United States. Its purpose is to provide an opportunity to gain employment experience in a student’s field of study. OPT is adjudicated (approved) by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)

How do I apply for Optional Practical Training
- Obtain a letter from your faculty advisor recommending you for Optional Practical Training and confirming your graduation date. A sample letter is available here.
- Reach out to Kimberly to schedule an appointment to apply for OPT and discuss what documents you will need to submit with your application.
- Meet with Kimberly via zoom to complete the application. (This is the best way to apply as the application is completed online and meeting via zoom allows you to share your screen so that we can walk through the application together.)
