MUS 102
SUMMER TRAVEL COURSE
Travel dates: May 13-22, 2023
Prerequisites: Audition or prior enrollment in MUS 405 required. This course will provide a creative and artistic opportunity as students travel to the cities of Milan, Pisa, and Lucca and participate in the Vox Lucensis Festival. Students will reflect on both the musical and the creative processes as performers as well as listeners (in attendance at arts events, excursions, or activities).
In order to achieve these outcomes, students will perform in concerts and write an assessment of their performance. They will also be required to keep a journal of their daily activities in Italy. Additionally, students will attend other musical performances and write an academic critique of the performance that contextualizes the performance in terms of culture, genre, and relevance. Students will be required to attend and participate in daily rehearsals, excursions. planning sessions, and discussions. MUS 405 is an auditioned ensemble of mixed voices open to all University students. However, this particular experience will go beyond the choral/musical experience already offered to USM students. Students will have an opportunity to collaborate with musicians from all over the world.
