What are immunizations?
Immunizations are vaccinations or shots that are given to help strengthen your immune system and help protect you against certain viruses.
Do I need immunizations?
YES, Maine Law requires all degree-seeking students and full-time, non-degree students born after December 31, 1956 to provide the following proof of immunization:
- One dose of Tetanus/Diphtheria (TD) or Tetanus/ Diphtheria/ Pertussis (Tdap) within the last 10 years.
- Two doses of Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) given after (not on) first birthday and given after December 31, 1956
Titre tests with positive results for immunity to Measles, Mumps and Rubella are accepted as long as they are signed or stamped and clearly indicate immunity to all three diseases.
How do I document that I’ve had the necessary immunizations?
Immunization records must indicate the date of immunization and are REQUIRED to be signed or stamped from one of the following sources:
- Healthcare provider
- High school
- Military base
- Previous college
How do I submit my Immunization Records?
All vaccination records must be UPLOADED by the student via the University’s Point and Click Portal.
What if I do not have these immunizations?
You can obtain these immunization from the USM student health center or at many local pharmacies. They can be expensive and often are not covered by insurance so we recommend that you obtain them before you arrive in the US if at all possible. If you are not able to prove that you are fully immunized you will be prohibited from registering for courses.
