Housing Application Process

How to apply for campus housing

May 7th is the priority application deadline for newly admitted students attending USM for Fall 2022. 

If it has been more than 48 business hours since you have paid your $50 Admission fee, you may now access the Residential Life and Housing Portal. If you have any questions on this, please email us at usm.reslife@maine.edu.

Eligibility:
You must be a matriculated student at USM before you can access the housing portal. Undergraduates need to be registered for a minimum of 12 credits each semester and graduate students need to be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits each semester to live on campus.

How to access the housing portal and the housing application:
Find the Fall 2022/Spring 2023 housing application/contract by going to your MyUSM portal (https://my.usm.maine.edu). Log in, look for the USM Quick Links on the left-hand side in the list under the Launch Pad, and click on "Residential Life and Housing Portal". Make sure you choose USM Quick Links, and not UMS (University of Maine System) Quick Links. Click on the "2022-2023 Housing Home Page" and the "Apply Now!" button.

Note that newly accepted students to USM will not see the USM Quick Links link until they have paid the Admission fee to matriculate, and then it takes at least 48 hours or more for the USM Quick Links to show up. If you run into any issues, contact our office at usm.reslife@maine.edu

Returning residents and returning, currently enrolled commuters - please log in to your MyCampus internal website for more information.

Vaccination requirements:
Those applying to be residential students will not receive a housing assignment until they are in compliance with the vaccination policy of the institution. The full requirements can be found here. We recommend that anyone intending to apply for housing ensure they get vaccinated and upload their information in Pointnclick as soon as possible to ensure a housing assignment and accurate bill.

Those applying for a religious or medical exemption should do so ASAP as the process can take some time.

Students can upload their vaccination information as soon as their last shot has happened. That then allows us to be able to move forward with a housing assignment.

Students that do not meet the deadline to be fully vaccinated by move-in will be on a waitlist until they are in compliance, and will be considered for spaces as they are available.

Paying the deposit:
If you are a new admit, please pay the $75.00 housing fee through one of the following methods. The housing deposit amount does not show up on your MaineStreet account as a bill to pay like other charges. To pay online, log in to MaineStreet and navigate to <Student self-service > Student center > Financials > View/ pay bill > Deposits > Select term > Select a deposit > USM_Housing_Deposit > payment amount = $75 > select method > continue to PayPath, then finish following instructions. You may also mail a check or money order to USM Residential Life, 37 College Ave., Gorham, ME 04038 (please include student name and ID number). 

Returning and international students are not required to pay the housing deposit upfront but may be charged for it if they cancel their application, depending on their cancellation date. Returning students, please see the MyCampus internal web for more information. 

Looking ahead to housing selection for Portland Commons in 2023:
Undergraduate students who reside on-campus for two years will have priority housing selection access to undergraduate bed spaces in Portland Commons when it opens in Fall 2023. This means starting with Fall 2021, students were beginning their eligibility for priority housing selection access for the first year that Portland Commons will be open.

The Russell Scholars Program requires an additional application to the program. If you request this choice for your Living Learning Community on the housing application, please be sure to apply to the program, too!
