Housing Application Process

How to apply for campus housing

The Fall 2021 housing application period is now closed. At this time, we are unable to accept any more fall housing applications.

Matriculated students may still apply for the Spring 2022 semester by selecting that option on the housing application.

You must be a matriculated student at USM before you can access the housing portal. Undergraduates need to be registered for a minimum of 12 credits each semester to live on campus.

Looking ahead to housing selection for Portland Commons in 2023
Undergraduate students who reside on-campus for two years will have priority housing selection access to undergraduate bed spaces in Portland Commons when it opens in Fall 2023. This means starting with Fall 2021, students are beginning their eligibility for priority housing selection access for the first year that Portland Commons will be open.

How to access the housing portal and the housing application:
Find the Fall 2021/Spring 2022 housing application/contract by going to your MyUSM portal ( Log in, look for the USM Quick Links on the left hand side of the screen in the list under the Launch Pad, and click on "Residential Life and Housing Portal". Make sure you choose USM Quick Links, and not UMS (University of Maine System) Quick Links. Click on the "2021-2022 Housing Portal" button and find the application within that. Again, note that we are no longer accepting Fall 2021 applications, so please choose the Spring 2022 only option in the application.

Note that newly accepted students to USM will not see the USM Quick Links link until they have paid the Admission fee to matriculate, and then it takes at least 48 hours or more for the USM Quick Links to show up. If you run into any issues, contact our office at

Paying the deposit:
If you are a new admit, please pay the $75.00 housing fee through one of the following methods. The housing deposit amount does not show up on your MaineStreet account as a bill to pay like other charges. To pay online, log in to MaineStreet and navigate to <Student Self Service > Student Center > Pay My Bill > View Bill/Payment Options > Access TouchNet Bill+Payment > Deposits > Select Term > Select Deposit Payment > USM Housing Deposit by CC (credit card) or Echeck, then finish following instructions. You may also mail a check or money order to USM Residential Life, 37 College Ave., Gorham, ME 04038 (please include student name and ID number). 

Returning and international students are not required to pay the housing deposit up front, but may be charged for it if they cancel their application, depending on their cancellation date. Returning students, please see the MyCampus internal web for more information.

The Russell Scholars Program requires an additional application to the program. If you request this choice for your Living Learning Community on the housing application, please be sure to apply to the program, too!
