USM’s CPL office posts credit for many standardized exam programs. Instructions for how to send scores and USM equivalencies for exam programs are listed below.
AP Scores of 3 or higher earn credit at USM. Information on USM equivalencies for AP exams can be found here.
ORDERING OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS FROM COLLEGBOARD
You must submit an official transcript directly from CollegeBoard for your scores to be evaluated for credit.
- Use school code #3691 to have your official transcript sent to USM.
- If you took your most recent AP Exam in 2018 or later, information on how to send your scores can be found at Sending AP Scores
- If you took your most recent AP Exam in 2017 or earlier, information on how to send archived scores can be found at AP Archived Scores

The CPL office will send confirmation to your maine.edu email if AP credit is posted to your transcript.
IB scores of 4 or higher on SL and HL levels earn credit at USM. Information on USM equivalencies for IB exams can be found here.
ORDERING OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS FROM IB
Please have your official IB transcript sent to the UMS Shared Processing Center via the electronic transcript process using University of Maine System-All Campuses as your selected institution. For information on requesting official transcripts please use this link.
You will receive confirmation at your @maine.edu email from the CPL office if IB credit is posted to your transcript.
Cambridge International exams with the following scores earn credit at USM:
- Advanced Subsidiary (AS-level) exams passed with an “e” or higher
- Advanced (A-level) exams passed with an “E” or higher

ORDERING OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS FROM AICE
Domestic students who have taken AS or A-level exams in the United States please have your official Cambridge International transcript sent directly to USM.
International students who have taken AS or A – level exams outside of the United States can send their score reports directly to priorlearningusm@maine.edu. Students will be asked to provide their Cambridge International test center and candidate ID number if these do not appear on their score report. CPL staff will verify the scores with Cambridge International.
You will receive confirmation at your maine.edu email from the CPL office if AICE credit is posted to your transcript.
CLEP exams with a score of 50 or higher earn credit at USM. Information on USM equivalencies for CLEP exams is found at this link.
ORDERING OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS FROM CLEP
Use school code 3691 to have your official CLEP transcript sent to USM.
If you are a military student who has CLEP scores listed on your Joint Services Transcript (JST), it is not necessary to send an official CLEP transcript in addition to your JST. Your military transcript acts as official record of your CLEP exam score(s).
You will receive confirmation at your maine.edu email from the CPL office if CLEP credit is posted to your transcript.
DSST exams with a score of 400 or higher earn credit at USM. Information on USM equivalencies for DSST exams is found at this link.
ORDERING OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS FROM DSST
Use school code 9553 to have your official DSST transcript sent to USM.
If you are a military student who has DSST scores listed on the Joint Services Transcript (JST), it is not necessary to send an official DSST transcript in addition to your JST. Your military transcript acts as official record of your DSST exam score(s).
You will receive confirmation at your maine.edu email from the CPL office if DSST credit is posted to your transcript.
USM students can earn a maximum of 8 credits per level (100, 200, 300) by exam for each language.
The following levels of proficiency on the ACTFL OPI will be awarded credit at USM:
- Intermediate: LAN 1XX (8 credits)
- Advanced: LAN 2XX (8 credits)

Official score reports should be requested by emailing Language Testing International (LTI) at support@languagetesting.com. If students have a copy of their results already, they can email this documentation to priorlearningusm@maine.edu and the CPL office will verify the results with LTI.
You will receive confirmation at your maine.edu email from the CPL office if ACTFL OPI credit is posted to your transcript.
ASLPI exam scores of 3 or higher receive 8 credits of ASL 2XX (intermediate ASL elective).

Official score reports should be requested by and emailed directly from ASLPI@Gaulladet.edu to priorlearningusm@maine.edu. You will receive confirmation at your maine.edu email from the CPL office if ASLPI credit is posted to your transcript
BYU FLATS exams are awarded credit using the following equivalencies:
- 101 and/or 102 F No credit
- 101 and 102 P, P LAN 1XX 4 credits
- 101, 102 and 201 P, P, P LAN 2XX 8 credits

HSK exam scores of 180 or higher on Level V or Level VI earn 8 credits of CHI 2XX (intermediate Chinese elective).
