The mission of University Health Services (UHS) is to support and enhance the health and psychological well-being of the University of Southern Maine community through clinical services, student training, and outreach.

UHS is committed to providing supportive, excellent outpatient clinical care and wellness education to the University of Southern Maine student population. We collaborate with students to attain their personal wellness goals. In addition to managing acute and chronic conditions, we care for our students by initiating referrals as needed and collaborating with other departments on campus to best support our students. 

In addition, UHS strives to reach students who do not seek our clinical services. We attend and host several tabling events during weeks of welcome, orientation, and de-stress week. Look for us at pop-up events around campus. You can also follow us on Facebook or Instagram where we post on a variety of topics and occasionally have contests.

Health Services’ primary focus is the health and wellbeing of the student body at USM. We achieve this goal through a variety of primary care services, health education, and external resources. These services are, but not limited to:

Billing and Insurance:

Students coming in for health visits will be asked to provide us with a copy of their health insurance card. Insurance will be billed for each clinical appointment.  Students who have no insurance will not be denied services.  University Health Services offers a reduced payment or free care option for students who qualify.

*Not a comprehensive list of insurance providers accepted at University Health Services. Acceptance of insurance from a particular company does not guarantee coverage. It is the patient’s responsibility to contact their insurance company and verify coverage before services are rendered. Any co-pays, coinsurance, or other charges after insurance has paid is billed directly to the patient.

University Health Services does not accept payment for services rendered in the office. Any owed amount at check-out will be billed directly to the patient at the address provided by the insurance company. Self-pay patients will be billed to the address listed in MaineStreet. If you have questions about your bill, such as payment options, please contact the phone number located at the top of your bill.

Throughout the academic year, our team engages with the USM community in several educational campaigns on campus. These educational engagements are supplementary to our role as healthcare providers. Typically, these are structured activities with dates and times we will be present at or hosting. Educational outreach includes:

Immunization Compliance:

Eligible students are required to comply with state law and provide proof of their immunity for specified vaccine preventable diseases.
