The faculty and staff at the University of Southern Maine School of Social work are dedicated to enriching the student experience by supporting organizations that extend beyond the classroom. A few of the opportunities available to our current students include:

  • Social Work Student Organization
    • The purpose of the SWSO is to provide a space for students to connect, explore, and discuss issues related to their development and the broader social work community.
    • SWSO also functions as a student-led organization that identifies and engages in projects over the course of a semester or academic year. These efforts are intended to benefit the USM community and the broader public with a focus on addressing social needs and strengthening our connections (e.g., organizing a food pantry collection, raising awareness around a particular issue, or hosting a de-stress event for your peers).

For more information and to get involved, please contact SWSO Faculty Advisors: BSW Program Coordinator, Dr.Gentles-Gibbs | MSW Program Coordinator, Dr. Giamportone.
  • National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Maine Chapter – The Maine chapter of this professional organization is committed to advancing professional social work practice.
